Part of Corbett National Park, in Ramnagar, Uttarakhand-Dhikala is the most sought after safari zone of Corbett as it gives a chance to live in the heart of Corbett, near the Dhikala grasslands which are home to a plethora of wildlife including tigers, Asiatic elephants, leopards, hog deer, barking deer, sambar deer, spotted deer and over 400 species of birds. The mesmerising landscape of grasslands alongside the banks of Ramganga and the undulating hills of the sivaliks makes Dhikala a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts. The forest rest house at Dhikala can accommodate a limited number of people, hence booking has to done at least 90 days in advance. The advantage of living inside the forest campus is that one can enjoy their maximum time enjoying the beauty of the landscape and looking for the illusive feline of the Terai.

Best Time To Visit Dhikala

Dhikala remains open from 15th November to 15th June. Because of monsoon, Dhikala remains closed for the remaining months.

Weather remains cool and pleasant between December to March. Most of the tourists visit Dhikala between December to March because of this reason. April to June are hot but sighting of wild animals is easier in these months. Animals often easily seen around river &  various man made waterholes.

How To Reach Dhikala

To Reach Ramnagar :

BY ROAD:

Ramnagar is around 260 kms from Delhi. It takes around 5 hrs to reach Ramnagar from Delhi.

Route from Delhi is:

Delhi – Hapur – Garhmukeshwar – Moradabad – Thakurdwara – Ramnagar

BY TRAIN:

Ramnagar (RMR) is the nearest railhead. Dhikala entry gate is around 32 kms from Ramnagar railway station.

BY AIR:

Pantnagar is the nearest domestic airport to reach Ramnagar. It is only 70 kms away from Ramnagar.  Delhi is the nearest International Airport at a distance of around 280 kms.

    Located in the heart of Corbett & spread in an area of 150 acres on the banks of Ramganga river, Kalakhand is home to all forms of wildlife found in the area. It is a private game reserve in itself, which brings unique opportunities to spot and photograph wildlife. It is an ideal place for wildlife lovers and photographers. Kalakhand has fiver beautifully appointed rooms in an old fashioned bungalow overlooking Ramganga river pristine forest in the background.

    The cliffs of Kalakhand shares 3 km long boundary with Ramganga river which is the lifeline to various forms of wildlife in the area. Don’t be surprised if you spot animals on the river. Elephants, Tigers, palla’s fish eagle, otters, kingfishers, sambar and spotted deer are few species which are commonly spotted on the river bank. The hides in Kalakhand is the best way to observe and photograph animals in their natural habitat.

    Best Time To Visit Kalakhand

    Kalakhand remains open from 16th November to 15th June. Because of monsoon, Kalakhand remains closed for the remaining months.

    Mostly tourist visit Kalakhand between December to March as the weather gets comfortable and the heat doesn’t sting anybody. April & May are hot but considered best time for wildlife photography & spotting.

    How To Reach Kalakhand

    Kalakhand is located inside Durgadevi zone of Corbett National park. Reaching Kalakhand in itself is a true jungle experience. Crossing river to Jungle trek of the last 1.5 kms sets the tone right.

    You will be accompanied by our team of naturalist / porters. Riverside resort by Aahma serves as a base camp for Kalakhand. All trips start and end at this point.

    Transportation to & from the base camp is part of the package.  Riverside resort is located at a distance of around 10 kms from Ramnagar.

      Jim Corbett National Park part of the greater landscape of Corbett tiger Reserve is situated in and around Ramnagar in Nainital district of Uttarakhand and was the first national park of India established in 1936. There are five major eco-tourism zones in Corbett namely Dhikala, Jhirna, Bijrani, Dhela and Durga Devi. All these zones have forest rest houses inside them where tourist can stay and enjoy their wilderness experience to the fullest. The most sought after zone is Dhikala followed by Bijrani, Jhirna and Dhela. Each safari zone has their own charm and vivid landscape. The national park is famous for its illusive Terai tigers. Along with tigers, leopards, jungle cat, leopard cat, elephants, yellow throated martin, four types of deers- sambar, spotted, barking and hog are found in the landscape. Otters, mugger crocodiles and gharials are also common in the riverine habitats. The tourism season is usually from mid-October to mid-June and the park stays closed for monsoons. One can enjoy safaris in gypsies and canters both.

      Best Time To Visit Corbett National Park

      Due to large number of activities, its location and weather, Corbett National park is an ideal year-around travel destination. However between October to March the weather gets comfortable and the heat doesn’t sting anybody. Winters are also the mating period of most of the animals.

      During October to March, Corbett park is a true abode of rare birds. One can find a variety of birds.

      April to June are hot but considered best time for wildlife photography & spotting as most of the water bodies dry up and the animals come to river or man-made water holes.

      From July to September a lot of people think that safari zones are closed, which is not true. Zones like Dhela & Jhirna are open throughout the year. Also Jungle is more green & most beautiful in the monsoon.

      How To Reach Corbett National Park

      BY ROAD:

      Ramnagar is the closest town to Corbett National Park. Ramnagar town is well connected via road to Delhi (270 kms), Lucknow (410 kms), Haridwar (165 kms) and Dehradun (220 kms) etc.

      BY RAIL:

      The closest railway station to Corbett National Park is Ramnagar. Ramnagar is the terminus of Delhi-Moradabad-Ramnagar broad gauge.

      BY AIR:

      Pantnagar airport located at a   distance of 70 kms is the nearest domestic airport and Delhi airport is the nearest International airport located at a distance of 280 kms.
