Set on the bank of Vembanad lake, Kumarakom is noted idyllic tourist destination of Kerala. Kumarakom is a small picturesque village in Kottayam district. Large tracts of paddy fields, coconut groves, banana and rubber plantation gives its countryside a beautiful green cover. A houseboat cruise is the best medium to explore its countryside and mesmerizing backwaters of Kumarakom. At Kumarakom a small bird sanctuary by the name Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, comprising an area of 14 hectares is located on the edge of Vembanad lake. Thick foliage inside the bird sanctuary and water of Vembanad lake offers a good habitat to lot of water birds. Few commonly found species in bird sanctuary are Indian cormorant, Herons, Larks, Flycatcher,Teals.
In these months weather remains cool in morning and evening time and afternoon remains pleasant. Cool breeze and pleasant temperature adds more enjoyment to sightseeing and excursion trips.
In this period coastal belt of Kerala receives abundance of rainfall so the lush green beauty of nature emerges. However sometimes your local sightseeing and excursions plans may hamper due to incessant rainfall.
In these months high temperatures (maximum of 35-37 degrees ) couples with high humidity levels so long sightseeing trips are not recommended.
Cochin International Airport is the closest Airport to Kumarakom (55 Kms). This airport is well connected to all major metro cities of India: Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai.
Kottayam Railway Station is the closest railhead, which is just 16 Kms away from Kumarakom. It is well connected with other major cities of India:New Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, etc
Kumarakom is well connected by road to other metro cities of India. There is good frequency of buses till Kochi from there cab can be booked to reach to your resort.
